UK to begin rollout of new COVID-19 vaccination campaign

------------

In the upcoming weeks, the U.K. will launch its autumn COVID-19 immunisation programme.

------------

This comes after the FDA approved booster injections created by Pfizer and Moderna that were altered to target both the primary virus and the widely distributed omicron version.

------------

The Pfizer vaccine has been given the go-ahead by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency for use in persons 12 years of age and older after concluding that it is both secure and efficient.

------------

The Moderna vaccine was approved by the organisation last month.

------------

The government will make the vaccination available to everyone over 50 as well as front-line medical personnel.

------------

These cutting-edge vaccinations will increase immunity and fortify our defences against the virus that still poses a serious danger to human life.

------------

Even when mutant strains of COVID-19 evolved, earlier vaccinations only targeted the original strain.

------------

In the new "bivalent" boosters, half of the injection protects against the most recent omicron mutations and half targets the original vaccination.
